🟠 Coinbase launches perpetual-style futures in the US

Coinbase has introduced perpetual-style futures on its CFTC-regulated derivatives exchange — bringing a product that dominates global crypto leverage trading into the regulated US market for the first time.

The initial offerings include nano Bitcoin and Ethereum contracts that track spot prices, carry embedded leverage, and trade around the clock. Perpetual futures account for an estimated 90% of global crypto trading volume, but have historically been available to US users only through offshore platforms.

CME Group has filed a lawsuit seeking to block the product, signalling significant opposition from established derivatives players to the new competition.
