This is not about censorship. This is about survival.

A child in Nigeria or anywhere in Africa should not create a social media account and be greeted by pornography, scams, violence, fake news, and hate before they even follow a single page.

Let's stop pretending this is normal.

The algorithms are not raising our children—they are exploiting them.

The UK and Australia have begun demanding greater accountability from social media companies. Why is Africa still waiting?

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom to expose children to harmful content.

If social media companies can tailor adverts to our interests, they can also do far more to protect our children.

Nigeria and Africa need stronger child online safety laws, meaningful age verification, faster removal of harmful content, and real consequences for platforms that repeatedly fail to protect young users.

The greatest resource Africa has is not oil, gold, or diamonds.

It is our children.

If we cannot protect them online today, we should not be surprised by the society we inherit tomorrow.

Protect the child. Protect the future.
