*JESUS OUR ADVOCATE (3)*
*1st John 2:1* My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: *Vs 2* And He is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but for the _sins_ of the whole world.
This refers to Believers. Jesus is our Advocate with the Father when we sin, so the Holy Ghost knew that sons of God would sin.
Everything Jesus has doneis personalized in Christ. In Christianity, it is important to know God is our Father and we are His sons. Forgiveness means that the person who sind will mot be punished.
*Hebrews 12:6* For whom the Lord loveth He *Chasteneth*, and scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. *Vs7* if ye *endure* chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons;for what son is he whom the Father chasteneth not? *Vs8* But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. *Vs9* Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be on *subjection* to the fathers of the Spirits, and live? *Vs10* For they verily for a a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but He for our profit, that we might be partakers of His Holiness. *Vs11* Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness to them which are exercised thereby.
The word *chasteneth* is used to correct a wrong. The word *endure* is never used for sickness and disease. The word *subjection* means to submit.
In Verse 6, the word *scourge* means to punish; to inflict a punishment on a criminal. That word was used for both Jesus and Paul. You can't call someone your son and deal with him like a criminal. This text in *Hebrews 12* was quoted from *Proverbs 3:11-12*.
*Proverbs 3:11* My son, despise not chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of His correction: *Vs12* For whom the LORD loveth He correcteth; even as a Father the son in Whom He delighteth.
It is clear that the word *scourgeth* used in *Hebrews 12:6b* was not used in *Proverbs 3* Looking at *Hebrews 12:7* the word *scourge* is not used again, rather you see the word *chasten* . Chasten means to correct by instructions.
So God does not punish His children. God disciplines and correct in His word.
We are dealing with people justified by faith in Christ. More than talking about sin, let's first talk about the relationship. *Relationship says He is our Father, we are His sons and Jesus is our sanctification*.
*CONFESSION*
I have been justified by faith on Christ Jesus. God is my Father. He corrects and disciplines me through His word. I receive God’s correction as a son.
