Lately, I’ve been seeing more stories about the Africa–Europe migration route, and for some reason, I feel deeply drawn to them.

I see people so desperate for a different future that they’re willing to take what seems like a 50/50 chance. Some would even argue it’s closer to a 90/10 chance of never making it to their destination.

One thing I can’t ignore is the hope in their eyes. A hope so powerful that it pushes them to face the scorching Sahara Desert, endure the brutality and uncertainty in Libya, and risk everything on the Mediterranean Sea.

That level of resilience is both heartbreaking and inspiring. It reminds us of the incredible strength of the human spirit, but it also highlights the painful reality that no one should have to gamble with their life just to pursue opportunity.

Yes, the economy is difficult. Yes, opportunities can feel limited. But it’s worth remembering that your greatest asset is not your location, it’s your ability to create value wherever you are.

Perhaps it’s time we shift our thinking from “What can I get?” to “What can I create?”

Because while changing countries may change circumstances, changing your mindset changes possibilities.

And above all, nothing-not even the promise of a better life-is worth the jeopardy of a human life.
