Part 2: The Conspirators of Peace
Far from the glaring TV lights and the chanting political thugs, a quiet war was being waged in a secluded botanical garden. Hauwa and Bukola sat across from each other, their fingers intertwined over untouched cups of tea. Despite the bitter rivalry tearing their husbands apart, the two women refused to let their own bond break. But they were terrified. The political rhetoric on the streets was turning violent, and they knew their husbands were racing toward a point of no return.
"If we leave them to their handlers, they will destroy each other, Bukola," Hauwa said, her eyes bright with unshed tears.
Bukola squeezed her hand. "Then we don't leave it to them. A dinner. At your country home, Hauwa. No press, no aides, no phones. Just the four of us."
It took days of intense persuasion. Hauwa appealed to Buba’s deep-seated pride in his hospitality, convincing him that hosting a private dinner would show magnanimity. Across town, Bukola used a different tactic, appealing to Yemi’s lingering affection for the man he used to call a brother. Both men eventually relented, each viewing the dinner as a chore to appease their worried wives, entirely unaware of the trap of love being set for them.
