Five Part Series on politicians and their gimmicks.

Part 1: The Great Divide

The studio lights were blinding, casting harsh reflections on the polished glass table that separated them. On the left sat Buba, the fiercely charismatic Chairman of the Politics for the People (PFP) party. On the right sat Yemi, the equally immovable Chairman of the Independent People’s Party (IPP). To the millions watching the live national broadcast, they were two titans locked in an ideological war for the soul of the nation.
"My opponent cares only for the elites in their high towers!" Buba boomed, leaning into his microphone.
"And my opponent offers nothing but empty populism to mask his lack of a real plan!" Yemi shot back, his voice cold iron.
Their words were sharp, designed to draw political blood. Yet, beneath the makeup and the tailored traditional wear, a heavy exhaustion weighed on both men. When the director shouted, "Cut to commercial!" the hostile masks slipped for a fleeting second. Buba caught Yemi’s eye, a flash of shared history passing between them before their respective campaign strategists rushed the stage, whispering partisan poison into their ears. They had forgotten how to look at each other as human beings. They were no longer the boys who had shared a single mattress and a plate of jollof rice in a cramped university dorm. They were now the heads of opposing empires, and the gap between them was widening into a chasm.
