Have you ever heard someone say, "It's not malaria... it's village people"?

It may surprise you to know that one of the most dangerous forms of malaria, called cerebral malaria, can cause sudden confusion, seizures, strange behaviour, and even coma. Because these symptoms appear so suddenly, some people mistake them for a spiritual attack or witchcraft.

The truth is that cerebral malaria is a severe medical condition caused by Plasmodium falciparum, the deadliest malaria parasite. It requires immediate hospital treatment because every minute counts.

This isn't about criticizing anyone's beliefs. It's about knowing that some medical emergencies can look frightening, and recognising them early can save a life.

Have you ever witnessed a situation where severe malaria was mistaken for a spiritual attack? Share your thoughts respectfully in the comments.
