The good people of Umunneochi Local Government Area, Abia State on Friday rolled out the drums for the Executive Governor of the State, HE Dr Alex Chioma Alex C. Otti , OFR, at a grand civic reception held at Peace Secondary School, Amuda, Isuochi, where community leaders, political stakeholders and residents openly declared their support for his transformational leadership.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Otti said his administration would continue to serve every part of Abia fairly and would not allow the State to return to the years of neglect. He announced that the long awaited Mmam Bridge, already provided for in the 2026 budget, would be delivered alongside other critical projects, while investments in free education, roads, healthcare and public infrastructure would continue to reach communities across the State.
The Governor also disclosed that the Abia Green Shuttle electric bus service would soon be extended to Umunneochi, with new routes planned from Umuahia to Umunneochi and from Umuahia through Okigwe and Uturu to Abia State University. He thanked residents for their cooperation in the fight against crime and warned that Umunneochi and the rest of Abia would no longer provide safe ground for criminal elements.
In separate remarks, Chief David Ogba Onuoha, Hon. Amobi Ogah, Hon. Mathias Umeh and Prof. Ihechukwu Madubuike praised the Governor's record in education, healthcare, roads, security and public service, saying his performance had earned him the confidence of the people.
The Commissioner for Lands, Mr Chaka Chukwumerije; Special Adviser on Health, Dr Ngozi Azode; Mayor of Umunneochi, Chief Sunny Afurobi; Mr Uche Okoroafor; and Alhaji Buba Abdullahi, speaking for the Northern community in Umuchieze, listed major interventions already recorded in the area, including improved security, approval for a new General Hospital, the upgrade of 19 Primary Healthcare Centres, with 12 already functional, road projects and improvements in schools.
The occasion also witnessed the formal reception of new members into the Labour Party, led by the 2023 PDP Deputy Governorship candidate, Dr Jasper Uche, who received the party flag alongside others from Governor Otti and the State Labour Party leadership.
