Obasanjo and Atiku Feud Started When GenZs Were in Primary School. Now They've Graduated from University- Shehu Sani

Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani, has weighed in on the renewed political exchanges between former President Olusegun Obasanjo and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, describing their long-running rivalry as one that has outlived an entire generation of young Nigerians.

In a Facebook post on Friday, July 24, 2026, Sani remarked that the disagreement between the two political heavyweights began when members of Generation Z were still in primary school and has continued even after many of them had completed university education, finished the National Youth Service Corps scheme, married and settled into their careers.

He wrote, "Obj and Atiku feud started when the GenZs were in Primary School. Now they have graduated from university, completed their NYSC, married and working and the feud is still ongoing."

His comment came amid fresh controversy between Obasanjo and Atiku over allegations dating back to their years in office.

The latest dispute was triggered by claims from the former president that Atiku sponsored an impeachment plot against him during his administration by allegedly providing financial support to the late former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na'Abba.

Responding to the allegation on Friday, Atiku dismissed the claims and accused Obasanjo of attempting to reshape historical events for political reasons.

Through a statement issued by his media aide, the former vice president argued that it was unfair to make allegations involving the late Na'Abba when he was no longer alive to respond or defend his reputation.

Atiku also questioned why the allegations were not raised while the former Speaker was alive if there was credible evidence to support them.

He further suggested that the timing of the renewed accusations was linked to political developments ahead of the 2027 general election.

The former vice president maintained that the prolonged disagreement between him and Obasanjo stemmed from his opposition to the controversial third term agenda during the former president's administration.

He also stated that Nigerians were more concerned about pressing national issues, including the rising cost of living and economic challenges, than political disputes dating back more than two decades.
