Nworgu Sets Games Record as Nigeria Wins Gold, Two Silvers in Para Powerlifting

Nigeria's para powerlifting team delivered the country's first medals of the 2026 Commonwealth Games on Friday, with Esther Nworgu winning gold and breaking the Games record, while Esther Oyema and Roland Ezuruike claimed silver medals in Glasgow.

Nworgu topped the women's lightweight event with a new Commonwealth Games record of 119.0 points, a performance strong enough to seal Nigeria's first gold medal of the Games and further cement her standing among the world's elite para powerlifters.
