Nigeria absorbed its largest oil-price shock since 2022 without an FX crisis, reserve drawdown or major liquidity disruption.
The EA-Proshare Q2 2026 Country Watch compendium brings together three assessments covering economic shocks, forecasts against actual outcomes and the cost of living across Nigerian states.
Key findings include:
• Gross external reserves reached US$51.46bn, a 17-year high.
• The FX-market premium narrowed to 2.11% of NFEM.
Real GDP grew by 3.89% in Q1 2026.
• The NGX All-Share Index reached approximately 229,420 points.
• The 2026 budget carries an N31.46trn financing gap.
Petrol prices rose by 51.80%, cooking gas by 28.10% and transport fares by close to 20%.
• A minimum-wage household cannot fund a healthy diet, cooking energy and daily mobility on a single income in most states.
The verdict is one of stronger macroeconomic resilience, but persistent fiscal, liquidity and household-welfare pressures.
