๐ณ๐ฌ Nigerian Man Allegedly Tortured to Death by S. Africa Police
A Nigerian national, Chika Ibe from Lokpaukwu, Abia State, allegedly died after being beaten, tortured and suffocated by South African Police Service (SAPS) officers during a police operation at Parksig Villas Complex, Belleville, Cape Town on Thursday, July 23.
The Nigerian Citizens Association South Africa (NICASA) condemned the incident and called on the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) and SAPS leadership to launch an immediate, independent investigation. NICASA said it will work with Nigerian diplomatic missions to pursue justice and urged Nigerians in South Africa to remain calm and avoid retaliation.
This is the third Nigerian allegedly killed by South African law enforcement this year. Emeka Charles Iroegbu was reportedly killed by Tshwane Metro Police in Pretoria, while the same officers were previously linked to the killing of Nnaemeka Mathew Andrew Ekpenyong in April. A parliamentary investigation into anti-migrant violence is already under way in Nigeria.
