Augustin-Louis Cauchy (1789–1857) was a French mathematician whose insistence on precision and logical rigor transformed mathematics into a modern scientific discipline.

He established the rigorous foundations of mathematical analysis by formalizing the concepts of limits, continuity, convergence, and infinite series, providing the framework upon which modern calculus is built.

Cauchy also made pioneering contributions to complex analysis through the development of Cauchy's integral theorem and integral formula, as well as important advances in differential equations, mechanics, elasticity, and mathematical physics.
