THE PREMIUM YOU ARE NOT ASKING ABOUT

There's money available in some NHS roles that doesn't appear in the job title and isn't mentioned unless you know to look for it. It's called a Recruitment and Retention Premium — and many international clinicians have never heard of it.

Recruitment and Retention Premia, or RRPs, are locally agreed supplements added on top of standard Agenda for Change salaries, applied to specific posts that a Trust is genuinely struggling to fill. They're attached to the post itself, not the individual, and apply to whoever takes up that role.

RRPs have existed within NHS pay policy for years, used to attract staff into services, locations or specialties where standard recruitment alone isn't meeting demand. They're not applied universally — they exist only on specific, genuinely hard-to-fill posts — but for candidates targeting the right specialties, they represent real, legitimate additional income.

The specialties and settings most likely to carry an RRP tend to include certain mental health services, community nursing in remote or rural areas, some ICU and critical care posts, and specific geographic locations where recruitment has consistently been difficult.

The clinicians who receive these aren't lucky. They're the ones who knew which posts to look for.

💬 Want to know which NHS specialties and regions are more likely to carry RRPs? Comment ENHANCED and I'll send you the Enhanced Salary Trust Guide.
