Makinde Says Court Judgment Upholds Rule of Law, Reaffirms 2027 Presidential Ambition.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has described the court judgment restraining the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) from probing the state's finances as a victory for the rule of law rather than a triumph over the anti-graft agency.

Reacting to the ruling, Makinde said he would not speculate on the timing of the EFCC's letter but invited Nigerians to draw their own conclusions from the sequence of events. He insisted that his administration has never claimed immunity from lawful investigations, stressing that the judgment simply reaffirmed the constitutional limits within which public institutions must operate.

The governor maintained that accountability should always be driven by credible evidence and not by speculative investigations aimed at uncovering wrongdoing without any specific allegations. According to him, the court's decision reinforces the principle that government agencies must act strictly within the confines of the law.

In addition, Makinde said his administration would continue to prioritise transparency, prudent financial management and compliance with due process in the handling of public resources. He maintained that Oyo State's financial records remain open to all constitutionally recognised oversight institutions acting within the bounds of the law.

The governor also urged public office holders and anti-corruption agencies to respect the independence of the judiciary and avoid actions that could create the impression of political interference or selective enforcement. According to him, strengthening democratic institutions requires every arm of government to discharge its responsibilities professionally and in accordance with the Constitution.

Makinde further assured residents of Oyo State that the legal dispute would not distract his administration from delivering on its development agenda.

He said ongoing projects in infrastructure, healthcare, education and agriculture would continue uninterrupted, while his government remains committed to improving the welfare of the people and sustaining the state's economic growth.

Makinde also dismissed claims that his entry into the 2027 presidential race was intended to strengthen his bargaining position before eventually withdrawing in support of another aspirant. He said such speculation was unfounded and did not reflect his intentions.

Reaffirming his commitment to the presidential contest, the governor declared that he remains fully focused on his ambition and has no plans to step aside. "I did not step forward in order to step down. I am going forward," Makinde stated, signalling his determination to remain in the race.
