Atiku’s Camp Fires Back at the Presidency Over Tinubu’s US Drug Case, Says ‘You Lack Evidence.'

The camp of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has dismissed the Presidency's defence of President Bola Tinubu over renewed controversy surrounding his alleged United States drug-related records, insisting that the government lacks both the facts and legal basis to counter the claims.

In a statement issued on Friday, Atiku's media team accused presidential aides of resorting to propaganda instead of addressing the substantive issues raised regarding the long-standing allegations. The camp argued that rather than discrediting those demanding accountability, the Presidency should provide clear explanations backed by verifiable evidence.

The response followed recent exchanges between the Presidency and opposition figures over documents and correspondence linked to President Tinubu's alleged forfeiture case in the United States. The controversy has resurfaced as political activities ahead of the 2027 general election intensify.

According to Atiku's camp, attempts by government officials to dismiss the matter have failed to weaken public interest in the issue, maintaining that Nigerians deserve transparency on questions concerning the President's past dealings abroad.

The former vice president's allies further argued that the renewed debate is not a political distraction but a legitimate issue of public accountability, stressing that democratic leadership requires openness, especially on matters that have attracted international attention.

The Presidency has consistently maintained that the allegations against President Tinubu have been settled and do not affect his legitimacy or eligibility to hold office. Government officials have repeatedly described opposition attacks over the matter as politically motivated, insisting that the administration remains focused on governance and implementing its economic and policy reforms.
