Trump Approves Landmark US-Saudi Civilian Nuclear Deal.

The United States and Saudi Arabia have reached a landmark agreement to establish a civilian nuclear programme in the kingdom, marking a major step in bilateral relations and deepening strategic cooperation between the two countries.

The 30-year multibillion-dollar agreement, approved by US President Donald Trump, gives American companies a leading role in developing Saudi Arabia's civilian nuclear infrastructure. The deal could also pave the way for the kingdom to enrich uranium on its own territory, a move that has generated significant international attention.

According to the agreement, US firms will play a central role in constructing and supporting Saudi Arabia's nuclear energy sector, effectively shutting out competing foreign companies from the project. The programme is intended to help the kingdom diversify its energy sources and reduce its dependence on oil for domestic electricity generation.

The agreement represents a significant boost for Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030 economic diversification programme while strengthening long-standing security and economic ties between Washington and Riyadh. Officials from both countries described the deal as a strategic partnership that will advance cooperation in energy, technology and regional development.

The framework also includes commitments on nuclear safety, regulatory oversight and adherence to international standards governing the peaceful use of nuclear technology.

Both governments said the programme is designed exclusively for civilian purposes and will operate within internationally recognised safeguards.

Despite its economic and strategic benefits, the agreement has sparked concerns among nuclear non-proliferation experts and some lawmakers.

Analysts warn that permitting Saudi Arabia to develop uranium enrichment capabilities could encourage other countries in the Middle East to pursue similar programmes, potentially increasing regional security risks.

Saudi officials, however, maintain that the civilian nuclear initiative is essential to meeting the country's growing energy demand, reducing carbon emissions and supporting industrial expansion.

The agreement is expected to undergo further regulatory and legislative review before full implementation, with both governments expressing confidence that it will strengthen bilateral relations and contribute to long-term regional energy security.
