Dr Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, today received a team of automobile and energy investors led by Mr Umeobi Chukwudolu Frank, who presented plans for a $13.1 million Compressed Natural Gas Mother Station at Owaza in Ukwa West Local Government Area. The proposed facility, with a capacity of 14.13 million standard cubic feet of gas per day, is expected to provide cleaner and more affordable energy for industries and transport operators.
Governor Otti welcomed the proposal, noting that Owaza has strong gas potential and that the Abia Industrial and Innovation Park offers a natural home for an investment of this scale.
The Governor assured the investors that the State Government would engage them on land allocation, infrastructure, security and the proposed Public-Private Partnership arrangement. He said the real value of the project would be seen in the jobs it creates, the lower cost of energy for businesses, improved air quality and the fresh opportunities it would open for manufacturing in Abia. Governor Otti also disclosed that the State has taken delivery of another 20 electric buses, while 30 more buses are expected by September 2026 as part of the ongoing effort to build a modern and cleaner transport system.
Speaking for the investors, Mr Umeobi Chukwudolu Frank said the team was interested in working with the Abia State Government to provide better and more affordable vehicles while improving the transport sector. The Director of Earthoc Gas Limited, Mr Odim Kalu, explained that the CNG station would serve Abia's industries and transport network and could also supply other parts of the South-East.
He said Owaza was selected because of its natural gas resources and requested government support in the areas of land, road access, security and partnership.
Present during the meeting are members of the State executive council and technical partners.
