One thing I care about when building websites is whether the website will still be live one year after I hand it over.

For many web designers, the job ends once the website is launched. But when I price a project, I also think about what it will cost the client to keep that website running.

Hosting fees.
Maintenance costs.
Plugin renewals.
Unexpected technical problems.

These recurring costs are often what eventually take a small business website offline.

That is why, for small and mostly static websites, I prefer building with Cloudflare whenever the project allows it. It gives me a way to create fast and secure websites with little to no recurring hosting cost.

The client may only need to pay for the domain renewal and any future content or design updates they request.

It means they are not forced to keep paying every month just to prevent their website from disappearing.

Of course, Cloudflare is not the answer for every project.
When a website requires WordPress, frequent content management, specific plugins or functionality that is better suited to WordPress, I will use WordPress.

The goal is not to force every client onto the same technology.
The goal is to choose a setup that makes sense for the business, not only on launch day, but also one, two or several years later.

I do not just want to build websites that go live.
I want to build websites that stay live.
