You know that feeling when you’ve been running too hard and you get dizzy? Cars are the same. If your car gets too hot, it can literally melt or crack the metal inside.

Why does it happen?

Not enough water (coolant): If there’s a leak or you just haven't checked the water level, the engine won't have a way to stay cool.

A "Stuck" Part: There is a little piece called a thermostat that acts like a gatekeeper for the cooling water. If it gets stuck closed, the water can't go where it needs to go.

The Fan: If the fan that blows air onto your engine isn't working, the car will get hot, especially when you are sitting in traffic.

Simple Tip: If your heat gauge goes into the red zone, stop the car immediately. Do not try to reach your destination. If you try to open the radiator cap while it’s hot, boiling water can spray you—so let it cool down first.
