The Grass Isn’t Greener — It’s Just Watered Differently 🌱
Yesterday, I was watching The Flintstones.
Yes, I'm an agbaya. 😂 But sometimes you just feel like revisiting your childhood.
Anyway…
Two neighbors. One hardworking, successful, but often grumpy. The other warm, cheerful, always appreciative.
The cheerful one stops by to borrow tools. The successful neighbor isn't home, but his wife welcomes him. He politely asks for a drink from the fridge. She gladly gives it.
Later, her husband comes home, tired, looking forward to that same drink… only to find it gone.
He explodes. Storms to his neighbor's house. Demands it back.
In his anger, he grabs what he thinks is the drink and gulps it down.
It wasn't a drink. It was car polish. 😂
Long story short ; after the drama that follows, he wakes up… completely transformed.
Sweet. Complimenting his wife constantly. Cooking. Singing romantic songs. Working fewer hours. Helping around the house. Appreciating everyone.
The husband every woman in the neighborhood wished they had. Including his neighbor's wife.
At first, his own wife was overjoyed. This was everything she'd wished for.
Until it wasn't.
The perfection became exhausting. She missed the man she married ; his personality, his banter, the little imperfections that sparked conversation and laughter and actually brought them closer.
She realized she never wanted perfection.
She wanted “SOMETHING ABOUT THAT ORIGINAL HIM”.
That episode reminded me of something we do in real life all the time:
We admire someone else's life so much, we forget every life has hidden struggles.
The marriage you envy. The career you desire. The country you dream of. The family you admire — none of it is as perfect as it looks from outside.
Sometimes the "flaws" you're running from are what give your own life its depth.
Instead of staring over the fence, water your own field.
The grass isn't always greener on the other side.
Sometimes it's just greener where someone else is watering it. 🌱

However, it's easy to look over and start judging our own messy, authentic lives against someone else’s carefully curated "perfection."
It’s a great reminder to appreciate the "original version" of our liv...
