PRESIDENT TINUBU APPROVES EXPANSION OF NIGERIAN ARMY TO 12 DIVISIONS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the expansion of the Nigerian Army from eight to 12 divisions and the recruitment of 28,000 additional personnel to strengthen national security and improve operational effectiveness.
The new divisions will be established in Makurdi, Ilorin, Jalingo, and Benin City, while existing formations will be reorganised to enhance command and control, border security, protection of critical infrastructure, and faster responses to security threats.

The expansion will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase expected to be completed by September 2026 and the second by December 2026.

The President reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to investing in the Armed Forces and ensuring they are adequately equipped and motivated to protect Nigeria and its citizens.
