ECOWAS Recommits to 2027 Rollout of Single Regional Currency, ECO

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has reaffirmed plans to roll out its long-anticipated single regional currency, the ECO, by 2027, calling it a pivotal step toward tighter economic integration, stronger intra-regional trade, and long-term sustainable growth across West Africa.

The reaffirmation emerged as one of the key outcomes of the 69th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, held Sunday in Lungi, Sierra Leone.
