Global oil prices have surged above $97 a barrel due to a sharp escalation in the U.S.-Iran war and direct threats to vital Middle Eastern shipping lanes. Brent crude futures jumped more than 3% to trade at $97.59 a barrel, while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude advanced to $89.48 a barrel, marking a price surge of roughly 25% since the beginning of July 2026
