It tells you more about U.S. strategic interests than about Nigeria’s actual security situation. Washington likes leaders who align with its regional priorities, and Tinubu is being rewarded with public approval, even while Nigerians still face insecurity at home.
Trump’s praise is diplomatic optics. It strengthens Tinubu’s global profile but doesn’t change Nigeria’s security reality. Until Nigerians feel safe in their homes, on their roads, and in their communities, foreign compliments will remain just that, compliments.
