Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777–1855) was a German mathematician, astronomer, and physicist widely regarded as one of the greatest mathematical minds in history, earning the title "Prince of Mathematicians."

A child prodigy, Gauss made groundbreaking contributions to number theory, algebra, geometry, statistics, astronomy, geodesy, and mathematical physics.

His landmark work Disquisitiones Arithmeticae laid the foundations of modern number theory, while his development of the method of least squares, the Gaussian (normal) distribution, and advances in non-Euclidean geometry profoundly influenced mathematics and science.

Gauss also helped predict the orbit of the asteroid Ceres and made pioneering discoveries in magnetism and geodesy. Renowned for his rigor, elegance, and extraordinary breadth of achievement, his ideas continue to underpin modern mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science, and the physical sciences.
