Tinubu Moves to End Oyo APC Crisis, Tasks Folarin With Reconciliation.

President Bola Tinubu has directed former Senate Leader and Oyo State Renewed Hope Ambassador, Senator Teslim Folarin, to reconcile feuding leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 general election.

The directive followed a closed-door meeting between the President and Folarin at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Tuesday, where discussions centred on the lingering crisis arising from the emergence of Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun Alli as the party's governorship candidate. According to sources familiar with the meeting, Tinubu stressed the importance of presenting a united front before the election.

The crisis has deepened in recent weeks, with several aggrieved aspirants and party leaders questioning the process that produced Alli as the governorship candidate. A separate group within the party, operating under the G6 platform, has maintained that the APC is yet to recognise any governorship candidate, while other stakeholders have expressed dissatisfaction with what they describe as an unfair reward system within the party.

Some party leaders have argued that loyal members who remained committed during difficult periods have been sidelined in favour of politicians who only recently returned to the APC. The appointments of former Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and other political figures have been cited by critics as examples of decisions that fuelled discontent among longstanding party members.

However, efforts to calm tensions appear to be yielding results, with reports indicating that some aggrieved aspirants have begun withdrawing their protests and pledging support for Senator Alli. The party's reconciliation committee and the governorship candidate have also intensified consultations aimed at restoring unity across the state's APC structure.

Sources said President Tinubu instructed Folarin to work closely with all stakeholders to ensure that disagreements are resolved quickly and that the party rallies behind its candidates at all levels. The President is said to expect significant progress within two weeks, as the APC intensifies preparations for the 2027 general election in Oyo State.
