Abia State today recorded another major milestone in its education transformation programme as His Excellency, Dr. Alex C. Otti , OFR, alongside celebrated author, academic and poet, Prof. Okey Ndibe, commissioned the State's second Smart School at Umuomaiukwu, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.
Addressing the pupils, Governor Otti urged them to make the most of the world-class facilities provided by government, reminding them that quality education remains the surest path to success. He assured the children that tuition is completely free and encouraged them to pursue excellence with dedication, curiosity and discipline. The Governor also disclosed that exceptional academic performance would attract scholarships and other rewards, while warning that anyone who vandalises public school facilities would face the full consequences of the law.
His Excellency, Dr Alex Otti noted that the school is equipped with round-the-clock internet access and CCTV surveillance to provide a secure and technology-driven learning environment.
The Special Guest of Honour, Prof. Okey Ndibe, praised Governor Otti for choosing to invest heavily in education, describing it as the most valuable legacy any government can leave behind. He said the Governor's achievements in academics, banking and public service have been reflected in the quality of leadership now being witnessed in Abia, and urged citizens to continue supporting efforts aimed at producing a generation equipped for global relevance.
Also speaking, the Member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Collins Iheonunekwu, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba Ph.D, commended the administration for providing learning facilities capable of preparing Abia children for a highly competitive world, assuring the Governor of the continued support of the people of Nsulu and Isiala Ngwa North.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, described the project as another major step in rebuilding the education sector through digital learning and modern infrastructure. The Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Mrs. Lydia Ezihe Onuoha, explained that the Smart School combines Artificial Intelligence, Virtual Reality, adaptive learning systems and renewable energy to deliver inclusive, technology-based education, while also providing a dedicated wellness room for female pupils.
In her remarks, the Managing Director of Blue Giraffe Development Company, Chief Mrs. Orieji Okwara-Emele, disclosed that the facility accommodates over 300 pupils and is fully internet-enabled, expressing delight that the Smart School model is now being replicated across Abia.
The colourful ceremony attracted senior government officials, traditional rulers, members of the clergy and the general public.
