"I felt it was the right moment. I had been at Barcelona since I was 12 years old and was 34 when I made that decision.
Barcelona is one of the most demanding clubs in the world. Deep down, I knew that from that point onward, the role I wanted to have would become harder to maintain.
It wasn't because I couldn't keep playing. In fact, I left after one of my best performances in the 2018 Copa del Rey final against Sevilla. But I understood that younger players were coming through, and there would be important matches where I might have to stay on the bench. I wasn't prepared for that.
After dedicating my entire life to Barcelona, I wanted to leave with beautiful memories rather than wait until things became difficult.
That's why I felt it was the perfect time to begin a new adventure in Japan."
