Though, I passed my PhD viva exactly a year ago, 17th July 2026 to be precise at the University of Plymouth and was awarded a doctorate in law, today was the ceremony.
I am immensely proud for three reasons. First, it represents the completion of a long arduous process with the benefit of learning new skills and the capability of seeing things differently.
Furthermore, it is a testimony that age and circumstances are no barriers to learning. It makes the goal harder to achieve and the success also sweeter at the end.
Lastly, I was immensely proud of my country Nigeria. All three candidates awarded Phds in law today: Dr Nelson Agbor, Dr Goodtime Okara and myself were all Nigerians. The icing on the cake was when the President of the student was asked to move a vote of thanks, it was Mr Dindu Okechukwu, a Nigerian and final year Psychology student.
Leadership may be a challenge, Nigeria has been and remains a great country with abundance of talents.
A big shout out to family, friends and acquaintances who supported me through this journey.
