THE QIP QUESTION

Going for a Band 6 or 7 NHS role? If you can't answer the quality improvement question well, it will cost you the job.

This is the question that separates a clinical practitioner from a clinical leader — and it's the one international clinicians most consistently underestimate, because structured QI isn't always built into training the same way in every healthcare system.

Here's what I want you to actually understand: you have almost certainly already done this work. You've just never framed it that way.

Changed something on your ward because it wasn't working? Flagged a pattern of incidents that led to a protocol change? Helped reduce infection rates or shorten handover times?

That's a QIP.

The framework NHS panels are listening for is PDSA — Plan, Do, Study, Act. It's the improvement language the NHS uses, the language CQC assessors use, and the language that tells a panel you think like a service leader, not just a clinician doing their job well.

You don't need a formal audit title on your CV. You need the right structure, and someone who can help you find the story that's already there.
