₿ Galaxy Digital launches $5M fund to quantum-proof Bitcoin

Galaxy Digital has opened applications for its Bitcoin Quantum Readiness Initiative — a $5M commitment to fund developers working on technologies that would protect the network against future quantum computing threats.

The urgency is real: roughly one-third of all Bitcoin ever mined is estimated to be vulnerable to a sufficiently powerful quantum computer. That's approximately 6.9M BTC sitting in addresses that could theoretically be cracked if quantum hardware advances far enough.

The initiative targets the research gap between where quantum computing is heading and where Bitcoin's cryptographic defenses currently stand — a window that, if left unaddressed, poses a systemic risk to the network's long-term security model.
