๐ฆ CBN holds interest rate at 26.5% for second time
Nigeria's Central Bank has retained its benchmark Monetary Policy Rate at 26.5% for the second consecutive meeting, Governor Olayemi Cardoso announced Tuesday following the 306th Monetary Policy Committee session in Abuja.
Cardoso said the decision followed a thorough assessment of the economy and was driven by heightened global uncertainties and the need to sustain progress made in curbing inflation. The rate was previously held at the same level at the May 2025 MPC meeting.
Nigeria has maintained an aggressive tightening stance in recent years to rein in inflation, and the back-to-back holds signal the CBN is prioritising stability over easing amid ongoing external pressures.
