JUST IN: 🇳🇬🦉DSS SET TO APPEAL LIFE SENTENCE ON ANSARU TERROR COMMANDERS

The Department of State Services (DSS) is set to appeal the life sentence handed to two top commanders of the Ansaru T£rr0r organization by a Federal High Court in Abuja.

Justice Emeka Nwite sentenced Mahmud Usman (aka Abu Bara’a/Abbas/Mukhtar), the self-styled Emir of Ansaru, and Abubakar Abba (aka Mahmud al-Nigeri/Malam Mamuda) to life imprisonment after they pleaded guilty to all 32-count charges.

A top DSS official described the sentence as too lenient for the gravity of their crimes.

The official noted the curious timing: the commanders changed their plea after Ansaru members k!dn@pp£d pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State. One of the key demands was the unconditional release of these same commanders.

The DSS insists that life sentences do not adequately serve justice for the two Oriire teachers beheaded by the abductors, whose demand was the release of these terror leaders.

The Service will seek maximum penalties on behalf of the victims.
