Verse in a Vase
I
If love were a language
I would not speak it loudly
I would hide it
in the way I remember
the stories you tell twice,
in the silence
that never asks to be filled,
in the quiet certainty
of choosing you
when no one is watching.
II
I do not believe
love is measured
by roses that fade
or promises
made in perfect weather.
I believe it lives
in ordinary moments
in waiting,
without keeping score
in listening,
without preparing a reply
in staying
when leaving
would be easier.
III
You have become
like a familiar page
in a favourite book
not because
I have reached the end
but because
I discover something new
each time I return.
IV
If one day
my voice should fail me
read my eyes.
You will find
every unwritten verse
I never had the courage
to place in a vase
And if time
insists on changing us
let it.
May it never change
the quiet miracle
of finding home
in another human heart.
