🇳🇬 Six dead, 23 survivors in Jigawa canoe capsize

Six people have been confirmed dead and 23 rescued after a canoe capsized in Malamawar Yandutse community, Ringim Local Government Area of Jigawa State on Sunday.

The vessel was carrying mostly female farmers when it overturned while crossing a waterway. Jigawa State Commissioner for Special Duties and Humanitarian Affairs, Auwalu Danladi Sankara, confirmed the figures during a sympathy visit to the affected community. Police earlier reported one confirmed death and 39 people missing as rescue operations were underway.

The state government has yet to account for all those who were on board.
