The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has backed the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe’s push for stronger collaboration between federal and state institutions, stressing that Nigerians care more about reliable electricity than regulatory disputes. Speaking after a stakeholders’ workshop on implementing the Electricity Act 2023, NERC Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni urged policymakers to set aside institutional rivalries and work together to improve electricity supply and strengthen investor confidence.

With the Electricity Act empowering states to regulate their own electricity markets, NERC emphasised the need for policy harmonisation to avoid regulatory conflicts. Oseni proposed more frequent engagement through a reformed National Council on Power, while the minister announced a nine-member inter-agency committee to recommend measures for improving coordination and ensuring the successful implementation of Nigeria’s power sector reforms.
