Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, SAN, has made history as the first woman elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), emerging victorious in the 2026 elections with 12,317 votes. Her landmark victory marks a new chapter for the legal profession, as she pledged to prioritise lawyers’ welfare, improve earnings and working conditions, strengthen institutional reforms and build a more inclusive Bar. She also called on members to put the election behind them and unite in advancing justice, the rule of law and the legal profession.
The election, which overcame a cyberattack that threatened the voting process, has drawn widespread commendation. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar congratulated Badejo-Okusanya, urging her to uphold democracy and judicial independence, while senior advocate Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, challenged her to heal divisions within the NBA and foster a stronger, more united association.
