STUDENTS KILLED AS TROOPS FOIL ISWAP ABDUCTION BID

Some students have been killed after suspected ISWAP terrorists launched a midnight attack on the Federal Government Girls College in Monguno, Borno State, in an attempted mass abduction.

The attack was, however, foiled by troops of Operation HADIN KAI and the Nigeria Police Mobile Force, who rescued 46 students after a fierce gun battle.

Military sources say the terrorists stormed the school at about 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, targeting students temporarily housed at the facility, which is serving as accommodation for Federal Polytechnic Monguno students.

Security personnel immediately engaged the attackers, while a Quick Reaction Force from Sector 3 reinforced the position, forcing the insurgents to abandon the operation and flee.

However, some students were reportedly struck and killed by stray bullets fired by the fleeing terrorists during the exchange.

The military says all 46 rescued students were evacuated to Kinnasara Barracks in Monguno, where they received medical attention and were confirmed to be in stable condition.

Authorities have launched investigations to identify suspected collaborators who allegedly aided the attack, while troops are pursuing the fleeing terrorists.

Operation HADIN KAI says security has been strengthened around schools and other critical facilities across the North-East to prevent similar attacks.
