One thing I have come to understand about life, human nature and the many roles we play throughout our lifetime is that the greatest burden is often not the roles themselves but the compounding weight of them. Each role places different emotional, mental and physical demands on us. Little wonder fatigue and burnout have become almost a normal part of the human experience.

My strategy lately has been unconventional in its simplicity: I have learned to live in the present moment and, as much as possible, juggle less so I can optimize myself. More importantly, I have learned to detach from one role before stepping into another, refusing to carry the emotional weight of one into the next. Some may mistake this for being lackadaisical or indifferent. It is neither. It is self-management. It is self-preservation.

This approach has also given me greater clarity of thought because I no longer lump everything together into one overwhelming burden. Work is work. Home is home. Family is family. In fact, marriage is different from home, even though the two are deeply intertwined. Each relationship and responsibility deserves its own attention, energy, and presence.

This does not mean you become less responsible. Quite the opposite. It means you remain in charge of your responsibilities instead of allowing them to take charge of you. You consciously decide where your time, emotions, and energy belong. When you practice this, it becomes easier to allocate yourself wisely. You become more present in every role because you are not mentally trapped in another. The result is not a life without pressure, but a life with fewer unnecessary burdens, greater clarity, healthier relationships, and a mind less susceptible to anxiety, fatigue, and depression.

Perhaps one of the greatest forms of maturity is not learning how to carry more, but learning what not to carry into the next moment

DENNIS: Too long
Comfort Yako Asala: Your strategy is worth taking honestly. Some roles are seasonal hence the the burden to carry them can wait until then.
Besides, it is wisdom.
Have a blessed week ahead 🙏🏾
DENNIS: I don’t think so
Discipline Creates Wealth. Not Luck.: Wow. I wish can adopt this .
Gladden Ngozi: This is a thoughtful perspective. I particularly like how you distinguished between carrying responsibilities and allowing responsibilities to carry you. That's a subtle but important difference.

The part that resonated with me most, however, was the discipline of consciously detaching from one rol...
