US Launches 9th Night Of Strikes On Iran As Conflict Widens.
The United States has launched a ninth consecutive night of airstrikes on Iran, targeting military capabilities linked to attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
The escalation follows the deaths of three additional US service members, bringing the total American military fatalities in the conflict to 17.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said the latest strikes were intended to degrade Iranian military capabilities used in attacks on commercial shipping and civilian mariners.
President Donald Trump said the operations were carried out in response to the deaths of American troops, describing the latest wave of strikes as a punishment for Iran.
The violence spread across the region as Kuwait intercepted Iranian drones, Bahrain activated air raid sirens, and Iran's Revolutionary Guards claimed responsibility for a strike on an alleged enemy command centre in Syria. Tehran also said it targeted US bases in Kuwait in retaliation for continued American attacks.
Iran maintained that it was responding to US military actions and accused Washington of targeting civilian infrastructure, including an under-construction nuclear power plant.
The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran condemned the attack as a violation of international law, while the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it was monitoring the situation and renewed its call for restraint around nuclear facilities.
The conflict has also intensified around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important oil transit routes. Iranian authorities said their forces stopped vessels they accused of attempting to navigate the strategic waterway through unsafe routes, underscoring the growing risk to global energy supplies.
The conflict, which began on February 28, has disrupted global oil routes and dimmed hopes for a diplomatic resolution. Iran warned of a "decisive and devastating response" to further US attacks, while the UN's nuclear watchdog called for military restraint after reports that an unfinished Iranian nuclear power plant was struck.
