Messi Remains One of the Greatest in Football History; But Argentina Should Address It's Racial Issues- Shehu Sani
Former Kaduna Central Senator Shehu Sani has reacted to Argentina's 1-0 defeat to Spain in the 2026 FIFA World Cup final at the New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday.
In a post on his X account on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Sani urged Argentina to address its racial issues while acknowledging Lionel Messi as one of the greatest footballers in history.
Congratulating Spain on lifting the trophy, the former lawmaker described the victory as a triumph for human dignity, human decency, and racial harmony.
"Congratulations to Spain. The victory of Spain is a victory for human dignity, human decency and racial harmony. Messi remains one of the greatest in football history; but his country Argentina should address its racial issues," he wrote.
Spain claimed the World Cup title after a tense and closely contested final that remained goalless throughout regulation time.
Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez kept his side in the game with a record-breaking 12 saves despite sustained pressure from the Spanish attack.
The defending champions' task became more difficult after Enzo Fernández was sent off late in normal time after receiving a second yellow card, leaving Argentina to play the entirety of extra time with 10 men.
Spain eventually found the breakthrough in the 106th minute when substitute Ferran Torres capitalized on a loose ball inside the penalty area, firing a left-footed shot beyond Martínez.
The goal secured a 1-0 victory for Spain, earning the country its second FIFA World Cup title and bringing Argentina's reign as world champions to an end.
