EMPOWERMENT OF OVER 500 CONSTITUENTS: HON. MARYLIN OKOWA-DARAMOLA EARNS PRAISE FOR PEOPLE-CENTRED LEADERSHIP

The Member representing Ika North-East State Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Marylin Okowa-Daramola, has once again demonstrated her commitment to grassroots development with the empowerment of more than 500 constituents through a wide-ranging support programme aimed at improving livelihoods and promoting economic self-reliance.

The empowerment initiative, which benefited men, women, youths and persons living with disabilities, featured the distribution of cash grants, bursaries, motorcycles, sewing machines, refrigerators, hair dryers, generators, washing machines, farming implements, wheelchairs and other vocational tools designed to support small businesses and enhance productivity.

The programme has drawn commendation from community leaders, stakeholders and beneficiaries who described the lawmaker's stewardship as one rooted in love, compassion and genuine concern for the welfare of the people.

Observers noted that when Hon. Okowa-Daramola sought election into the Delta State House of Assembly in 2023, some critics questioned her political experience and suggested that her ambition was largely driven by her family's political influence. However, nearly three years into her tenure, many now point to her legislative accomplishments and constituency projects as evidence of effective representation.

Before her election, Hon. Okowa-Daramola served as Senior Special Assistant in charge of the Girl-Child Entrepreneurship Development Agency, where she was credited with championing programmes that empowered young women and promoted entrepreneurship across Delta State.

Since assuming office as a legislator, she has continued to make notable contributions. She became the first member of the current Delta State House of Assembly to sponsor a Private Bill that was subsequently signed into law by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

She currently serves as Chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation and Accounts, one of the most strategic committees in the Assembly, where she has been widely acknowledged for her diligence and commitment to accountability and transparency.

Beyond her legislative responsibilities, Hon. Okowa-Daramola has remained actively engaged with her constituents through a series of developmental interventions. These include the distribution of school bags, uniforms and educational materials to pupils at the beginning of academic sessions, installation of solar-powered street lights, construction and rehabilitation of market stalls, attraction of road projects, vocational training programmes and the provision of business grants and starter packs for entrepreneurs.

Residents of Ika North-East have also praised her accessibility and presence at community events, noting that she consistently identifies with the people during moments of celebration and mourning alike.

Speaking on the latest empowerment programme, stakeholders described it as a reflection of her enduring commitment to the welfare of the people and her popular mantra of "Our People First."

Many beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, saying the items and financial assistance received would help them establish businesses, expand existing ventures and improve their standard of living amid prevailing economic challenges.

Political analysts have observed that while attention is increasingly turning towards the 2027 elections, Hon. Okowa-Daramola has remained focused on delivering tangible benefits to her constituents rather than engaging solely in political calculations.

As calls continue to grow for her return to the Delta State House of Assembly for a second term, supporters argue that her record of service, empowerment and community engagement has positioned her as one of the most impactful representatives in the constituency's recent history.

For many residents of Ika North-East, the latest empowerment programme is not merely a distribution of items and cash grants—it is a demonstration of leadership anchored on service, inclusion and the pursuit of a better future for the people.
