A Kenyan commercial pilot says his life has been turned upside down after 34 years of marriage ended in a betrayal he never saw coming.
Captain Waweru Mwangi, a father of five who once considered becoming a Catholic priest, told TUKO he returned home one afternoon to find movers loading the family's belongings onto a lorry. Shortly after, divorce papers were delivered by hand to his Muthaiga residence, carrying allegations he never anticipated.
For decades, the pilot flew, earned, and transferred his money into an account managed by his wife, who also ran a school the couple established with a loan he took out.
"I paid all my children's school fees and provided them financially. I never doubted my wife, and indeed every project we planned she managed well," he said.
Even after the separation, Captain Waweru donated one of his kidneys when his son needed a transplant, a sacrifice that briefly reunited the family before tensions reignited.
The matter is now before the courts, with his wife allegedly claiming all shared properties, including the family home and the school, belong solely to her with documents reportedly transferred into her name as far back as 2014 without his knowledge.
"These people have moved on and have no need for me. I am still struggling with the legal fees; I own nothing and hope to get help. I am not ashamed to say I need help, especially with the legal fees," he said.
