Today has been one of the hardest days of my life.
After a sleepless night, I went to my girlfriend's place this morning. We sat together, talked, cried, and reflected on everything that had happened. We both admitted that we were sorry and wished things had been different. We know we made mistakes, and we are living with the pain of those decisions.
We decided to call my mum first because my girlfriend was afraid her own mum would be deeply disappointed in her. We also called a 24 hour prayer and counselling line, hoping to receive guidance, comfort, and prayers.
The counsellor asked our ages and said he wasn't there to judge us, but to remind us that an innocent child was involved. He then asked if I had a job. I told him I didn't. His response was, "If you don't have a job, why should you expect her to keep the baby?" Before I could explain how we truly felt, the call ended.
I won't lie I felt heartbroken. Not because I wanted someone to agree with us, but because we were already carrying guilt, regret, and pain. We were looking for hope and understanding during one of the darkest moments of our lives.
I'm not sharing this to blame or accuse anyone. I just want to ask:
Do people in situations like this need more compassion alongside honest advice? Can someone truly understand another person's pain in just a few minutes? And when young people make mistakes and sincerely regret them, what is the best way to guide them toward healing instead of leaving them feeling even more broken?
We are deeply sorry for everything that happened, and we continue to pray for forgiveness, wisdom, and strength. I would appreciate respectful advice from anyone willing to share it.
