Bashir Ahmad, a former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, has declared his support for Spain ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup final.

In a post shared on his X handle on Sunday, July 19, 2026, Ahmad said he would be rooting for the European side and admitted he would be disappointed if defending champions Argentina went on to retain the trophy.

He wrote, "I’m backing Spain with my full chest, and it will genuinely hurt me if Argentina wins."

His comments add to the growing reactions from prominent Nigerians as football fans across the world look forward to the tournament's finale.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup final will be played on Sunday, July 19, at the New York New Jersey Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Argentina and Spain are set to face off in a match scheduled to kick off at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
