My Atarodo🌶️
Six months ago, I put a tiny pepper seedling in the ground. Just a few shy leaves, trembling by this wall.
The first month, nothing happened. I watered it anyway.
The second month, the sun in Lagos beat down and the leaves curled a little. I shaded it, talked to it, kept going.
By month four, it stopped being a "plant" and became a bush. New branches everywhere, reaching out like it finally believed it belonged here.
I almost gave up in June. No flowers. No fruit. Just green.
But growth doesn’t always shout. Sometimes it’s just roots going deeper where no one can see.
Then July came.
I walked out one morning and there they were — the first tiny green peppers, hiding under the leaves like little secrets. Not big yet. Not red yet. But _there_. Proof.
This pepper tree taught me what growth really looks like.
It’s not fast. It’s not loud.
It’s watering on days you don’t feel like it.
It’s trusting the quiet months.
It’s waking up one day and realizing the thing you planted in faith is finally feeding you back.
From one small seed, to this full, wild, fruit-bearing tree in 6 months.
Thank you for reminding me to keep going. The harvest always comes, even if it takes a whole season.
