Shortly after this government came into office, the former NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, secured a $3 billion loan. The question we asked was: Is it the responsibility of NNPC to borrow money on behalf of the Federal Government? Beyond that, there is the issue of the forward-sale agreements, with NNPC repeatedly stating that a significant portion of Nigeria’s crude oil has already been committed. The saddest part is that these matters are now before a Senate committee exercising its quasi-judicial powers under Sections 88 and 89 of the Constitution.
