⚖️ Taiwan court jails BitShine crypto fraud ringleader for 22 years

A Taiwan court has sentenced the operator of BitShine — a registered cryptocurrency exchange — to 22 years in prison after finding it was used as a front for organized crime.

The Shilin District Court convicted the ringleader, identified as Shih, following a case involving NT$1.27 billion (approx. $39M USD) in investor losses and NT$2.3 billion (approx. $71M USD) in alleged money laundering. Authorities also carried out significant asset seizures tied to the scheme.

The case is considered one of Taiwan's most consequential crypto fraud verdicts and underscores the risk posed by licensed exchanges operating as criminal fronts.
