Earlier, I posted about the public transformer serving BEM 1/Ankpa Quarters in Makurdi and how residents have been left without electricity for months.
After going through the WhatsApp group created for the transformer contribution, I have more questions than answers.
Residents are paying money into a personal account, names of contributors are being published, and there's a stamped acknowledgment letter from a government office but I don't see any official approval that the government has agreed to provide or install a transformer.
My question is: Is this really an official government-backed process, or are desperate residents being made to fund what should be the government's responsibility?
If this is legitimate, where is the official approval, quotation, or commitment from the relevant authorities? If it's a genuine community effort, why isn't there complete transparency on how the funds will be managed?
Benue State residents, has anyone seen a similar process that actually led to a government-installed transformer, or should people be asking tougher questions before contributing?
